Lore Sunday: Alldrasian Republic and the Fae Citystates

The Alldrasian Rebublic was born in 2448 as a response to the unification of the southern nations, previously the Fae race society was based on citystates, each with its own culture, rules and law, the declaration of republic has united them all under a single constitution and merged all the armed forces, the republic is commanded by the Nine Elders, each representing a city. The Fae cities are almost as ancient as the race itselt, starting as tribal colonies arround the Alldrasils, they are built over ruins of older settlements, there are buildings all arround the trees covering the roots and expanding several kilometers away from the tree, under shadows of the branches and leaves. The Fae also built over the trees, inside cracks and holes, and basically in any available space. Alaria The largest and oldest city of all Fae citystates, choosen as the capital of the republic due to its population size and its cental location in the territory. Its the only city that has two Alldrasils, an extremelly rare occurrence, with its branches and roots entangling with each other as if they were a single tree. The city was the only to fend off the Mantidarius chimeras, but the twin Alldrasils were still killed by Human mages sieging the city while the rebublic forces were fighting the chimeras. Murya The second most important port of the republic, it received much less trafic due to the distance from the human cities, but thanks to that it suffered less during the war… until the Mantidarius that devoured the Alldrasil of Bysma arrived at the city and devoured more than half of the tree before it was slain, which killed the tree and caused a terrible famine among the population. Lore Wednesday: Elder Magic Trees, The Alldrasil

Nature always find a way to use all available resources. Even in the hostile cold tundras of northern Grantera, life has prospered thanks to the high availability of mana from the north pole leylines.Nature always find a way to use all available resources. Even in the hostile cold tundras of northern Grantera, life has prospered thanks to the high availability of mana from the north pole leylines. One lifeform has evolved to take advantage of the surplus of mana with higher efficiency. The Great Alldrasils are ageless trees that grow a few kilometers in height and several hundred meters in diameter very quickly, by draining mana directly from the Leylines. The lush green of the Alldrasils has always fascinated the magi researchers due to the biome they live in, some Alldrasils grow on frozen hard soil covered in deep snow, despite looking like a giant version of normal temperate forest trees. The Alldrasils are able to survive because the mana flowing through them manifests into a primitive protective spell that keeps the temperature of the entire tree at stable 24┬║C no matter how hot or cold it gets, this spell also protects the trees against fire, an Alldrasil can only be burned down after it dies. Fruits from the tree are produced every 13 years, the fruits are capsules, a type of dry dehiscent fruit and serve mostly to protect the seeds as they fall from the tree, thousands fruits are produced every time, and the ground near the trees is always covered with remains from the fruits which explode when hitting the ground releasing most of the impact, the seed is often injected into the ground from the impact. The land near the trees is filled with seeds, but most of them almost never germinate, because new Alldrasils cannot…

Lore Sunday: The Dracari Tribes

The Dracari Horde was created in 2299 by Baham the Cruel, the most powerful Dracari to ever live, he united the 13 Dracari tribes under the same banner for the first time in history, but his boundless lust for war and conquest was not satisfied with just that, so in 2304 he started the Dracari Invasion into human lands. Drak Karin Tribe The Drakko and the Kariniri tribes have existed for centuries, and their capitals became so big that the city boundaries touched and they merged into a single huge city, named Eraduul, which in Dracari language means “United Strength”. Different from most Dracari tribes which were controlled by a single chief, the city of Eraduul was controlled by a council of 5 elders from each tribe, only the most wise and powerful were allowed to join the council. When the legendary Dracari warrior Baham decided to become the new leader of Eraduul and merge the two tribes that controlled it, he did so by challenging all 10 Elders at once for a deathmatch. He managed to best all 10 Elders in their most powerful Dragon forms in a very gruesome and merciless battle, which gave him the title “the Cruel”, he then united the Drakko and Kariniri tribes into the Drak Karin and started to subjugate the other tribes. Mar Thal Tribe “Thal” is the Dracari word for “harbor”, Mar Thal was the hub of trade with the human kingdoms before the war, the Mar Thal Dracari were the ones who fought against Baham with most vigor, but they stood no chance against him and his army, leading to the grand carnage of Mar Thal, where most of the city population was killed to serve as a grim reminder to the other tribes. Dora Khar Tribe Very little is…

Lore Wednesday: The Ancient Dragons

Since ancient times Dragons have been the alpha predators in their ecosystems, and until the Humans unleashed their Chimeras on the world, Dragons have always been at the top of the food chain. Being magical creatures Dragons require vast amounts of mana to remain alive, dragons are able to fly extremely high to absorb mana directly from the leylines above, they seem to be able to do this more efficiently at the equator line where polar leylines meet and clash sending spirit mana downwards. Despite feeding on mana, Dragons also need to eat meat, they hunt for large beasts arround their territory, and will gladly eat a tasty mana-filled Human who dares to invade their nest. A few dragons are omnivores, but they will still eat other creatures occasionally. Other characterists shared between all dragons are skin covered in hard scales, three pairs of limbs (usually four legs and two wings) and the ability to use a powerful breath attack, sometimes based on pure mana, toxic clouds or elemental manifestations like fire balls or water jets. Due to huge amounts of mana that flows inside their bodies and the high density of their souls it is common for mana crystals to grow inside Dragon bodies. The Dracari have found a way to use these crystals to infuse their souls to assume the forms of Dragons from which the crystals belonged to. Dragons have above average intelligence for wild beasts, it is enough to understand some basic words and concepts if well trained, of course training a Dragon is incredibly hard and demands perfect discipline, Dragons are very prideful creatures, and most will die before they bow down to Human or Dracari. Dragons doesn’t seem to die from old age and their power grow each year, in theory they can live…

Pre-war map bellow.   Kingdom of Pollan Capital: Vinlarr (current time: New Vinlarr) Pollan was formed at the same time as Valvalia as the first Human kingdom was split into two. Pollan economy is based mostly on mining and lumber industries, but also technology, alchemy was mostly born in Pollan, despite some very important advancements on the science comming from the other two kingdoms. The relation of the kingdom with Valvalia has never broken into officially declared war, but there have been several skirmishes and raids between both kingdoms, mostly led by dukes and counts fighting each other, as the crown on both kingdoms had low to moderate authority and the kings would let their vassals declare war freely. Pollan was the only kingdom to survive the fall of the Scarlian Empire by erecting a huge wall to the north of the Vallra river to defend against Goblin invasions, while ignoring the empire orders to accept and integrate the new homunculus race into the nation. Pollanians accept Orcs and Elves as civilians, but their reprodution is regulated.   Kingdom of Valvalia Capital: Capiso Valvalia economy was based mostly on commerce and raiding, they traded with a few Dracari tribes in the tropical jungles and even with the Fae to the frozen…

Lore Wednesday: Living Weapons, The Chimeras

After the victory against the Dracari Invasion, the now united Human Empire started the period of mourning for the dead and the restoration of the destroyed cities. With the unification of the academic bodies of the three Kingdoms and the shared knowledge, the art of Alchemy was born and so was the method to create Chimeras. Chimeras are engineered creatures formed through alchemy from one or more base organisms with specific traits inserted into them, the results are formidable killing machines ideal to become front line fighters or very peculiar creatures able to perform extremely specific tasks. These were some of the Chimeras created for the Great War: Mantidarius Created with the objective to destroy the Alldrasils, they are created as larvae and implanted into the Alldrasil roots through deep underground tunnels, the larvae digs into the tree and start feeding from the huge flow of mana that exists inside the Alldrasils, it grows extremely fast and go through metamorphosis, when the creature finishes the metamorphosis it has already consumed most of the tree interior and the leaves/blossom start to dry, at this point the creature burst out of the base of the trunk and starts devouring the remains of the tree. The Mantidarius is almost immune to magic and very aggressive, attacking anything that tries to stop its endless feeding, when the tree is fully devoured the creature migrates to the next tree. The hunger of these creatures was endless and they were supposed to eat all trees and then starve, after destroying six Alldrasils the four Mantidarius created were slain, their exoskeletons are still decomposing in the Alldrasian tundras. The fifth Mantidarius was destroyed in its larval state. Wurm Used to attack both enemies of the Empire, the Wurms were gargantuan worms used to dig tunnels under the…

In the year of 2379 the Scarlian Empire formed with the main objective of repelling the Dracari invasion, the three kingdoms united their armies and started pushing back the Dracari Horde, taking back territory slowly. During the Dracari invasion several Human mages have arisen to the title of archmage, from these, a few select ones were give special status as Imperial Knights, two of them were the twin brothers Eren and Nere, which were known respectively as the Mirror Knight and the Mist Knight. Eren and Nere were orphans that lost their families during the start of the Dracari invasion, they were the only survivors of their village due to being gifted mages, using their powers they managed to escape the Dracari raiders who butchered all the other villagers. Despite being only 36 years old they were both much stronger than the average adult mage. A few days after their escape, the twins reached one of the large cities near what would become the empire capital Scarlon. They were taken by civilians and healed back to full health, but their hearts were still broken by the loss of their family and home, despite being offered adoption by a local family they refused and decide to join the military, rage and sorrow had consumed their young hearts. Despite being children they proved being worthy soldiers thanks to their great powers. Eren had mastered Earth and Light, while Nere had mastered Air and Dark, they both could use the composite elements that combined their affinites with ease, Eren was an adept Glass mage, while Nere was an adept Miasma mage. While it is rare for siblings to have such different elemental affinities, the case of identical twins is different, since identical twins have souls split from a single source, and the rupture…

Lore Wednesday: The last creation of the Fae, Dwarves

The Fae were masters of engineering and the art of golemancy, the sturdyness and resilience of their creations despite how many tiny, fragile and complex parts their golems were composed of have always puzzled craftsmen of other races. Weapons wielded by the fae during the war were complex and changed forms during combat constantly adapting to the situation, and no matter how hard these weapons were struck they would never fall appart unless the whole thing went down at once. The secret to Fae’s crafting was the The Strongest Link System, through complex magic the Fae were able to link every single part of their creations to objects they called “Golem Hearts”, all damage taken by any of the linked pieces was transfered to the Golem Heart, and until the Heart broke all pieces would remain completely intact. Golem Hearts could be made out of any mana-conductive material that allows magic circuits to be imprinted on it, magic metals like mithril and adamantine were usually made into spheres and used as Hearts, thanks to this technology the Fae Golems could fight toe on toe with the most vicious human-made Chimeras. But it was only when the Fae started losing the Great War they understood the need for a fully autonomous magic-immune construct to deal with the human elemental mages, and thus the Dwergar project that was left aside during the war was revived. The Dwergar, mostly known by other races as “Dwarves”, were the most complex constructs the Fae ever created, they were intelligent Golems able to maintain themselves and even replicate, thanks to the Strongest Link technology they were very resilient, and since they needed no pilot they could be minituarized to human-size. Unfortunately the Fae were defeated before they could send large Dwergar troops into battle, and the…

Lore Sunday: The founding of Edengrall

Migas Town grew quickly in the decades after the Exodus, so much that it reached the limit it could be expanded and remain supported by Migas’ original gravitional magic, to solve the overpopulation problem the Magistery decided to build settlements all arround Grantera and give land to those who volunteered to join these settlements. One of these settlements was the town of Edengrall, a beautiful settlement built in the deserted island of Gralls, located to the south of the old Dracari territory. The island was previously one of the tribal capitals of the Horde, but the Dracari city that existed in the island was completely destroyed during the Great War. As the town expanded and the island was properly explored by the Mages and Homunculus the ruins of the old Dracari city were found at the bottom of the lake, the details of how the city was destroyed were unknown to the Mages of Edengrall, as in most capital attacks the methods and custom chimeras used were kept top secret by the military. Exploring the ruins became a top priority when a huge source of power was discovered in the deepest parts of the old city. The power source was deemed dangerous and a major threat to the settlement. In the day 14 of the Winter of 2782 as an order from the mayor all able mages joined into an expedition to enter the ruins and seal the power source deep within, leaving their wives and daughters in the village. The power source was sealed together with the whole ancient city, but none of the mages ever returned, this day of sorrow is remembered every year by the surviving villagers. The survivors attempted to contact Migas Town to ask for help and reinforcements, but answer never came. From the several…

Lore Wednesday: Migas Town and the limits of alchemy, Faeries

Migas was the first Human Emperor, he united the three kingdoms and built the capital Scarlon all by himself, being a legendary Earth magi, he erected the city in a few days. But his true pride was not the Empire he united, nor the extravagant capital he built, it was the Magi Academy he created, where so many new talents were dicovered each day, his love for the magical arts and his desire to awaken the dorment powers of others made him step down as Emperor and live his last days as a teacher in the academy. Migas feared one day the Magi of the academy would be in danger and designed an escape mechanism that would lift the whole academy as a flying island, that mechanism was triggered when the Empress Kelmer called for the arrest of the Magisters, initiating the Exodus of the Magi. Away from the reach of the decaying Empire, the Magisters started to expand their new home, adding more land to the flying island, after a few years the Campus turned into a self-suficient town flying over the ocean, the Magisters named their home “Migas Town”. Free to do their research away from the meddling nosy aristocrats and lords of the empire, the Magisters and their disciples advanced the art of Alchemy further, their objective was to create a perfect spellcaster race with qualities of both Human and Fae. Unable to find any surviving members of the Fae race, the Magisters had to use the few remains they could gather as base materials for their new creation. Despite all their attempts, due to the lack of base materials, they could not create the homunculus they wanted. Most of the failed experiments were not stable enough to survive, the only ones who managed to remain stable…
